Ultrasound therapy can help a wide range of conditions, including inflammation and sports-related injuries of the muscles, tendons and ligaments. Ultrasound has been shown to increase tissue relaxation, improve local blood flow and encourage scar tissue breakdown. The effect of the increase in local blood flow can be used to help reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation.

Laser therapy uses light energy to increase the body’s natural healing mechanisms and aids in decreasing inflammation.

Electrotherapy merges various electricity–based treatment techniques and works by reducing inflammation and accelerating healing in the affected area of the body.

Can anyone have ultrasound therapy?

Ultrasound therapy is a safe and innocuous treatment technique. However there are situations when ultrasound therapy is not appropriate. Your qualified physiotherapist will ensure that it is an appropriate technique for you and discuss it with you. Certain examples where it would definitely not be used are; over body parts with cancer, in pregnant women and in children.
